 It’s never too late to learn an instrument! Students will get the chance to practice and learn a band instrument in a small group setting and will meet every day during the  semester. Students enrolled in this class will develop the skills necessary to transition into the band program should they choose. This is a performance based class.

School Band is open to any student who has played a band instrument for at least one year and is capable of performing on a sixth grade band level. Prior approval from Mrs. Tracy Shoff (tshoff@rcdoc.education) is necessary if the student has not played in the MACS program before. The School Band develops basic musicianship skills and instrumental techniques through the performance of both classical and popular music.  The School Band performs quarterly concerts and performs the National Anthem for a Charlotte Knights baseball game. This is a performance based class.  (Additional School Band tuition per year per student applies.)

Seventh grade band is open to any student who played in the 6^th grade band. Prior approval by Mrs.Tracy Shoff is required if the student has not played in the MACS program. ( tshoff@htcms.net ).   The band continues to develop basic musicianship skills and instrumental techniques through the performance of both classical and popular music.  The band performs winter and spring concerts and traditionally makes two tours of the elementary schools during winter and spring. (Additional band tuition per year per student applies)

8th grade band is open to any student who has played in the 7th grade band. (Prior approval from Mrs. Tracy Shoff or Mr. Ben Ranzinger, is required if the student has not played in the MACS program before tshoff@htcms.net or branzinger@htcms.net). The band continues to develop musicianship skills and instrumental techniques through the performance of both classical and popular music. The band performs four concerts each year and may travel for a performance or field trip. (Additional band tuition per year per student applies).

Students will experience singing together as a choir.  The goal of the class is to learn about melody, harmony and group singing and how to perform as one unit.  Songs may include religious works, foreign language pieces, pop/modern music and musical theater.  This is a performance based class.

Students will sing a variety of music together, with a focus on harmonies and sound production.  There may be opportunities to attend festivals and/or competitions, give concerts and continue growing as a choir.  This is a performance based class.

Students will be able to experience music through listening, viewing and exploring various genres of music from a variety of perspectives.  Students will sing, play and compose original music for instruments and voice. 

Students will explore different types of musical theater through listening, viewing and singing various shows.  Students may be able to attend a live show if an appropriate show is being performed locally and scheduling permits.

The students will be exposed to art elements, principles of design, color theory, and proper use of tools and materials within both two and three dimensional designs.  The students will also explore the use of a variety of media which includes painting, drawing, paper maché, ceramics and much more.  Projects and mediums vary from grade to grade.

INTRODUCTION TO GUITAR - This Semester-long course will provide students with the fundamental skills necessary to play the guitar.  Instructional topics will include but are not limited to proper playing position, chord shapes and progressions, strumming/picking patterns, and basics of music theory (how to read music).  A limited supply of instruments will be available for class, but it is highly recommended that students either own or have frequent access to a full-size acoustic guitar and case. There will be at least one concert performance during this course outside of regular class time.

There is no minimum guitar experience level necessary to join this class! Whether your child has had private lessons or is brand new to music, all are eligible to participate. Students are recommended to own or have frequent access to an acoustic guitar for the duration of the course. They will also be expected to perform as a class for one HTCMS Band Concert, and at least one additional performance within the semester.
